Blumenauer to revive bill that sparked 'death panel' controversy

By Mike Lillis - 07/02/10 05:00 PM ET

Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.) said Friday that he'll soon be reintroducing legislation to provide Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements to physicians who conduct voluntary consultations with patients about end of life care.

The bill, which the House passed as part of its health reform bill, inspired countless headlines last year after Sarah Palin claimed it would encourage the creation of "death panels."

Politifact named Palin's claim their "Lie of the Year."
