News bites: Public wary of GOP cuts to Medicare, Medicaid

A majorities of respondents to a new poll — 70 percent and 57 percent, respectively — oppose deep cuts to Medicare and Medicaid even after being told of their outsize weight in the federal deficit, The Wall Street Journal reports.
