DCCC hits Ryan in home district
House Democrats' campaign arm is attacking Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) in his home district as the House prepares to vote on his plan to partially privatize Medicare.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is using a billboard in Ryan's hometown to accuse him of "protecting millionaires instead of Medicare." The DCCC also released a Web video earlier this week attacking Ryan's Medicare proposal and has launched robocalls about the plan in 41 GOP-held districts.
Ryan's plan would convert part of the program into subsidies for private insurance. Seniors could choose between private coverage and the traditional single-payer system.
The proposal is part of Ryan's budget outline, which is scheduled for a vote on the House floor Thursday.
Ryan's earlier Medicare plan — which did not include the existing program as an option — was a boon to DCCC and helped stoke Democrats' belief that they can take back the House majority this year.
