They say everything is bigger in Texas, and Sen. Ted Cruz wants to keep it that way.
The freshman Republican, in response to New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s (I) failed attempt to regulate the size of sugary drinks sold in the Big Apple, has filed an amendment seeking to prohibit the federal government from regulating the size of food and beverages.

A GOP amendment to the Senate Democratic budget would prohibit using food stamps to buy junk food. There are now more than 400 amendments to the Senate’s budget plan and No. 421 by Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) would only allow Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, formerly known as food stamps, to buy healthy foods.

Michelle Obama on Wednesday brought to her Let's Move! campaign to Mississippi, which has the highest obesity rate in the nation.
She praised the state for its efforts to slash those numbers, noting "Mississippi has seen obesity rates drop 13 percent among elementary school-aged kids.
"Your schools did hard work. They replaced their fryers with steamers — hallelujah. And started serving more fruits and vegetables and whole grains," she said at her stop at the Eastside/Northside Elementary Schools in Clinton, Miss.

Michelle Obama touted declining childhood obesity rates as a credit to her Let's Move campaign and announced a new partnership with Pinterest and other media companies to promote healthy eating.
The first lady, who will embark on a two-day nationwide tour for the third anniversary of Let's Move this week, talked about her initiative Tuesday on "Good Morning America."

The Obama administration is taking additional steps to crack down on cash payments for food stamps. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) on Thursday announced it would take action against the “bad actors” who abuse the program by extending the legal definition of “trafficking” to include indirect ways of receiving cash for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. It is already illegal to sell SNAP benefits directly for cash, but the new rules would also bar cash refunds for products purchased with food stamps.

Bird’s the word for Michelle Obama — the first lady is teaming up with Big Bird in two just-released public service announcements on healthy eating.
In the 30-second clips posted Thursday on YouTube, Obama and the famed “Sesame Street” character encourage kids to eat their fruits and veggies and get active.
One video shows the unlikely pair hanging out in the White House kitchen.
