Johnson & Johnson exec called to testify on recall of kids' medicine

By Julian Pecquet - 06/22/10 03:34 PM ET

Johnson & Johnson Chairman and CEO William Weldon was asked on Tuesday to testify in front of the House oversight panel next week concerning its recall in April of 135 million bottles of infant and children's medicine. The hearing will also examine the so-called "phantom recall" in 2008 of deficient Motrin medicine that was bought by contractors without a formal recall ever being announced.

The panel, headed by Rep. Edolphus Towns (D-N.Y.), held a first hearing on the issue on May 27. Colleen Goggins, worldwide chairman of the Johnson and Johnson Consumer Group, testified then.

The new hearing has been set for 10 a.m. on Wednesday.
