Health news look-ahead

By Julian Pecquet - 07/01/10 08:00 AM ET

Today's HHS' big day.

The Department of Health and Human Services unveils its new healthcare portal, wwww.HealthCare.gov, where consumers will be able to compare healthcare options.

And patients with pre-existing conditions who can't get insurance will be able to start applying for participation in high-risk insurance pools. The pools are temporary bridges until the overhaul of the health insurance market in 2014, when health plans will no longer be allowed to turn sick people down.

The federal government argues its motion to dismiss Virginia's health reform challenge in federal court in Richmond.
And the mental health parity law requiring health plans to cover health and mental health care equivalently goes into effect today.
