Cardiac arrest campaign gains recognition

By Julian Pecquet - 08/16/10 11:41 AM ET

An advocacy group's campaign to teach Americans about the dangers of sudden cardiac arrest has earned plaudits from fellow associations.

The Heart Rhythm Society's "Apples and Oranges" campaign has been named to the 2010 Associations Advance America Honor Roll.

The national awards competition is sponsored by the American Society of Association Executives and The Center for Association Leadership.

The campaign seeks to "provide Americans with valuable information about this serious health issues, help identify those at risk, and ultimately save lives," said Douglas Packer, president of the Heart Rhythm Society.

The society says sudden cardiac arrest affects more than 250,000 people a year, yet 70 percent of Americans incorrectly think it's the same thing as a heart attack.

More information about the campaign and sudden cardiac arrest is available here.
