Daschle, Frist join advisory board of health site ZocDoc
The website ZocDoc has added two former Senate majority leaders to its advisory board.
Former Sens. Tom Daschle (D-S.D.) and Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) have joined the board for the company, which runs a site that allows users to find doctors, make appointments and rate doctors online.
“Sens. Daschle and Frist are among the most influential leaders in healthcare and government, and they each have a long history of building consensus from both parties to effect change,” said co-founder and chief executive officer Cyrus Massoumi.
“We are honored to work with them to develop the high-level partnerships we need to bring better access to medical care to patients everywhere.”
Frist also works for Meharry Medical School as a clinical professor of surgery and serves on several boards, including one at the Kaiser Family Foundation.
Daschle, whose congressional career spanned more than two decades, works for DLA Piper as a senior policy adviser. He also co-founded the Bipartisan Policy Center and sits on the board of the liberal Center for American Progress.
Daschle was nominated by President Obama to be secretary of Health and Human Services in 2008, but withdrew after problems emerged with his tax forms.
“In order to see real change in our healthcare system, we all need to work together to help control skyrocketing costs and provide the access to care patients not only need, but deserve,” Daschle said in a statement.
“I firmly believe in the power of the private sector — and specifically ZocDoc — to work in tandem with policymakers and the medical community to change healthcare for the better by scaling our system for the future and empowering patients.”
