McCain seeks to block FCC rules

Just as the FCC was voting to go forward with a proceeding to consider net neutrality regulations, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) introduced legistion--The Internet Freedom Act of 2009--that would block the agency from enacting such rules.

"This government takeover of the Internet will stifle innovation, in turn slowing our economic turnaround and further depressing an already anemic job market.  Outside of health care, the technology industry is the nation’s fastest growing job market," said a press release from McCain's office. The release also said wireless carriers have invested $100 billion in network infrastructure and developmeng over the past three years, leading to faster networks, more competitors and lower prices than any other country.

“Keeping businesses free from oppressive regulations is the best stimulus for the current economy," McCain said
