Obama, Pelosi tell left they've accomplished a lot
President Obama and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi pointed the left to what they described as the administration’s key successes during speeches on Saturday at Netroots Nation, a conference in Las Vegas for the liberal social-media community.
“Change hasn’t come fast enough for many of you who fought so hard during the election,” Obama said in a video address, before airing a clip in which MSNBC anchor Rachel Maddow enumerates the administration’s successes.
In the clip, Maddow pointed to financial regulatory reform, healthcare and the stimulus as key accomplishments. “The last time anyone did this much while in office, booze was illegal,” she said.
Pelosi also pointed to healthcare reform as evidence the administration is getting things done. She recounted what Obama told her after healthcare passed.
“Last night when we passed the healthcare bill, I was happier than the day I was elected president of the United States,” Obama said, according to Pelosi.
“I was pretty happy myself, but not happier when you were elected,” Pelosi said she replied, telling the president his election made the bill possible.
