Dell sells first smartphone in the U.S.

Computermaker Dell started selling its first U.S. smartphone on Tuesday.

The 3.7-ounce Aero runs on Google's Android operating system and costs $99.99 with a two-year contract from AT&T. The phone by itself costs $299 and can be ordered from Dell's website. The device is not Dell's first smartphone but it is the first to be sold in the U.S., making Dell the latest entrant into the increasingly competitive smartphone market.

Dell also recently unveiled a tablet computer called the Streak that can be used to make phone calls.
