MSNBC embraces political bent with tagline

By Sara Jerome - 10/05/10 09:03 AM ET

MSNBC plans to launch a two-year, multimillion dollar advertising campaign that embraces the network's reputation as a left-leaning news source.

The channel will use the tagline "lean forward" and quotes including "the future belongs to the fearless." Ads will include images of President Obama on election night and prominently display hosts Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow, according to the New York Times.

The tagline "lean forward" “defines us and defines our competition,” said Phil Griffin, the president of MSNBC, in an interview with the Times. The Times said his comments implied that Fox News Channel "is leaning backward."

“It’s an umbrella that’s pretty wide, but that does have a progressive sensibility,” he said. “We’re confident. We’re strong. Let’s not live in the past, let’s not live by fear.”
