Zuckerberg awarded 'fear' medal at D.C. rally

By Sara Jerome - 10/30/10 02:51 PM ET

Facebook founder and chief executive Mark Zuckerberg was presented a "fear award" on Saturday at "the rally to restore sanity and/or fear" on the National Mall, an event hosted by comedians Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert.

As Stewart doled out medals to people who opted to behave reasonably within what the comedian portrayed as a shrill political environment, Colbert mocked the effort by giving awards he dubbed "fearies." The awards went to people who helped increase the public's sense of fear.

Colbert awarded Zuckerberg one of the fear awards for making Americans afraid for their privacy online. He also said Zuckerberg deserved the "fear award" for giving people the opportunity to check whether their ex-boyfriend or girfriend had begun dating someone much cuter than them.

Zuckerberg did not appear at the rally to accept the award because "he values his privacy a lot more than yours," said Colbert, who instead awarded the medal to himself on Zuckerberg's behalf.

Colbert ended the segment by asking Zuckerberg to get in touch on Facebook. "Mark, friend me," he said.
