Google spokesman: Search reg interest on the rise

By Sara Jerome - 01/13/11 12:29 PM ET

A Google spokesman said on Thursday that the conversation about search regulations has gained greater prominence over the last year.

He would not speculate on whether Congress will have an interest in addressing the issue.

Search regulations would prevent Google from burying its competitors in the search rankings, which the company says it does not do.

The company held a briefing on Thursday morning about why search regulations are unnecessary and how Google ranks websites. A spokesman also circulated a poll over the weekend showing that most Americans oppose such rules.
