Bono Mack collecting signatures against net neutrality

By Administrator - 01/24/11 02:35 PM ET

Rep. Mary Bono Mack (R-Calif.) has set up an online petition where voters can register their opposition to the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) net-neutrality rules passed in December.

The petition is located on Bono Mack's campaign website and requests that users include their contact information.

The placement highlights that net-neutrality has long since completed its evolution from arcane telecom debate to partisan lightning rod, which members on both sides can use to fundraise and collect e-mail addresses.

Bono Mack promoted the petition on her Twitter feed Monday, reaching out to industry about her effort. In a tweet, Bono Mack alerted Verizon about the petition.

"Sign the 'Petition to Stop the Government Takeover of the Internet' today! @verizon, #netneutrality," she tweeted.

As of yet, no return tweet from the telecom giant, which issued a court challenge the FCC's net neutrality rules last week.
