Rep. Garamendi hosting mobile town hall

By Gautham Nagesh - 02/08/11 12:33 PM ET

Rep. John Garamendi (D-Calif.) will take citizen engagement to a new level Tuesday evening when he becomes one of the first elected officials to host a mobile town hall aimed at smartphone and Facebook users.

Garamendi will take part in a mobile town hall that will be streamed live on Facebook as well as BlackBerry, iPhone and Android smartphones. Garamendi will use a free application from Visible Vote to host the event.

“As a member of Congress, I owe it to residents in my district to use the latest technologies available to create an open dialogue,” Garamendi said, adding that the new smartphone technology will enable thousands to reach him.

Garamendi will broadcast live from Cannon House Office Building on Tuesday around 9pm; those interested in viewing the event can download the free app or watch it on Facebook.
