Fan snags URL supporting Elizabeth Warren for Senate

By Gautham Nagesh - 05/24/11 04:33 PM ET

Democrats hoping Obama administrator adviser Elizabeth Warren enters the Massachusetts Senate race against Scott Brown might have gotten a false alarm Monday when a Boston lawyer registered a domain name backing her candidacy.

Records show Evan Fray-Witzer registered ElizabethWarrenforSenate.com on Monday — when contacted by The Hill, Fray-Witzer said he has no ties to Warren, who is currently helping the Obama administration set up the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

"There's no connection whatsoever," Fray-Witzer said. "I think she's terrific, I hope she makes a decision [to enter the race.]"

Fray-Witzer said he bought the domain name because the Massachusetts Republican party has a history of purchasing such domains and using them to run negative campaign sites about Democratic candidates.

He described himself as an admirer of Warren, but not a personal acquaintance.
