Cybersecurity conference begins

By Brendan Sasso - 08/08/11 11:08 AM ET

The Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) seventh annual conference on cybersecurity began on Sunday in Nashville.

The event is hosted by the Homeland Security agency in charge of responding to cyber-attacks on the nation's non-military networks, the U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US-CERT).

According to the event's organizers, the Government Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams (GFIRST) National Conference and Vendor Expo is "the only event that brings together incident responders and cybersecurity professionals to exchange information and share best practices about the most critical security issues affecting the nation’s cyber infrastructure."

The conference will include sessions on issues such as cloud computing security, digital forensics and intrusion protection.

Speakers will include Michael Brown, DHS's director of cybersecurity coordination; Roberta Stempfley, DHS's acting assistant secretary of cybersecurity and communications; and Lee Rock, acting director of US-CERT.

Rock took over the cybersecurity team after the sudden departure of Randy Vickers last month.

The conference will continue until Friday at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel & Convention Center in Nashville.
