White House introduces online petition feature
The White House announced a new tool for submitting online petitions on Thursday.
The feature, titled "We the People," will be part of whitehouse.gov and will allow individuals to create and sign petitions to the federal government. If a petition gathers enough signatures, policy makers will review it and the White House will craft an official response.
"It's a new way for your voice to be heard in our government," said Macon Phillips, the White House director of digital strategy, in a video announcing the site.
“When I ran for this office, I pledged to make government more open and accountable to its citizens. That’s what the new We the People feature on WhiteHouse.gov is all about — giving Americans a direct line to the White House on the issues and concerns that matter most to them,” President Obama said.
