Obama to hang out on Google+ next week

By Gautham Nagesh - 01/23/12 12:30 PM ET

President Obama will hold his first public event on the Google+ social network next Monday, Jan. 30, the search giant said Monday.

The White House joined Google+ last week and has had held events on social media sites like YouTube, Facebook and Twitter to connect with the public. Next week Obama will use Google+'s live group video chat, or "Hangout," feature for the first time.

From now until Jan. 28, users can submit questions for the president via the White House YouTube channel and vote on their favorites. Obama will respond to a selection of the most popular questions and several users will join him live in the Google+ Hangout.

President Obama's State of the Union address will also be broadcast live on YouTube, which is owned by Google.
