News bites: Last day to buy Dot-YourNameHere

The Wall Street Journal offers the reminder that today, April 12, is the last day to submit applications to purchase a new top-level domain.

Microsoft said on Wednesday that a U.S. federal judge agrees that the company doesn't need to stop selling products in Germany until a patent suit with Motorola is resolved. (AllThingsD).

A three-judge appellate panel in New York ruled that a Goldman Sachs programmer who downloaded source code shouldn't have been charged with theft because the code isn't a physical object, Wired's Threat Level reports.

Declan McCullagh at CNet has a profile of Nicholas Merrill, an entrepreneur who wants to open a surveillance-proof telecommunications company that will use "all legal and technical means to protect the privacy and integrity of our user data."
