News bites: Facebook considers options for kids

Facebook is exploring ways to allow children younger than 13 to access its site, The Wall Street Journal reports. The move could open up a new source of revenue for the social-media giant, but could also create new regulatory headaches because of a federal law that restricts the collection of data from children younger than 13.  

Facebook and Yahoo are in advanced negotiations to settle their patent lawsuits, according to AllThingsD.

The New York Times reports on a computer security expert who warns of the dangers of government-made cyberweapons

Salesforce will buy Buddy Media, which helps brands manage their social-media presence, for $689 million, Reuters reports.
