Haley Barbour registers to lobby for Motorola

By Brendan Sasso - 07/18/12 07:18 PM ET

Former Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour (R) is lobbying for Motorola Solutions, according to disclosure forms filed Wednesday.

Motorola Solutions provides data and communications tools to businesses and government agencies. Last year, it split off from cellphone-maker Motorola Mobility, which is now owned by Google.

According to the disclosure forms, Barbour and other lobbyists at BGR Group will "monitor and provide guidance and strategic counsel on federal actions impacting state and local broadband projects."

Motorola is a major producer of two-way radios and public safety equipment. Congress passed a law earlier this year to set aside funding and wireless frequencies for the construction of nationwide broadband network for emergency responders.

Barbour is also a registered lobbyist for Chevron and the Alliance for Marketplace Fairness, which is pushing for an online sales tax.

Barbour served as chairman of the Republican National Committee in the 1990s and returned to BGR, the lobbying group he founded, after he left the governor's office last year.
