News bites: Google to lay off 20 percent of Motorola Mobility workforce

Google announced that it plans to lay off 20 percent of Motorola Mobility's workforce and close a third of the cellphone maker's offices worldwide in a bid to turn around the struggling smartphone business, The New York Times reports.

Pressures on Groupon's sales force are causing some employees to consider jumping to another company, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Megaupload founder Kim Dotcom tweeted that his new music service, called Megabox, will launch by the end of the year, The Next Web says.

Investors in Facebook — including Goldman Sachs, Microsoft and Accel Partners — can start selling their shares in the social network for the first time this week after the first in a series of lockup dates expires, Bloomberg reports.

A lead designer for one of Samsung's smartphones will not be allowed to testify in the company's patent battle against Apple, according to CNET.
