News bites: Apple in discussions with cable operators on TV set-top box

Apple is in discussions with cable operators about letting consumers watch live television and other content via an Apple device that's a set-top box, but no deal has been reached yet, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Facebook's first lockup expires on Thursday, allowing investors to begin selling 271.1 million of the social network's shares, Bloomberg reports.

A New Zealand court ruled that U.S. authorities seeking to extradite Megaupload founder Kim Dotcom must show evidence backing up charges of piracy and copyright infringement, Reuters says.

Facebook is trying to save money and time by using a California law to expedite the payout of its Instagram deal, according to the Financial Times.

Dish Network plans to launch a new satellite-based broadband service across the United States by the end of the year, The Wall Street Journal reports.
