Google's Brin: 'I am dreading today's elections'

By Brendan Sasso - 11/06/12 03:58 PM ET

Sergey Brin, the co-founder of Google, lashed out at both parties in a post on the social networking site Google Plus early Tuesday.

"I must confess, I am dreading today's elections," he wrote.

He predicted that no matter who wins, politicians will continue attacking their opponents instead of working to solve the nation's problems.

"No matter what the outcome, our government will still be a giant bonfire of partisanship. It is ironic since whenever I have met with our elected officials they are invariably thoughtful, well-meaning people. And yet collectively 90% of their effort seems to be focused on how to stick it to the other party," he wrote.

He urged the winners to withdraw from their parties and "govern as independents in name and in spirit."

"It is probably the biggest contribution you can make to the country," he wrote.

Brin has not been as politically active as Google Chairman Eric Schmidt, a vocal supporter of President Obama, but he did donate to the president's reelection campaign.

According to campaign finance records, in October 2011, Brin donated the maximum $5,000 to Obama's campaign and $30,800 to the Democratic National Committee.

In September, Brin attended a bill signing with California Gov. Jerry Brown (D) at Google's headquarters in Mountain View. The law will allow Google and other companies to operate driver-less cars on public roads.
