News bites: Google pushed hard behind the scenes

The New York Times examines Google's work behind the scenes to convince regulators that its search business doesn't violate the law.

Google is free to extend its dominance of the $50 billion Internet search market after the Federal Trade Commission's decision to close its investigation, Bloomberg writes.

The European Commission said its probe is not affected by the FTC's decision, according to Reuters.

New York's comptroller has sued Qualcomm in a bid to force the company to disclose its political spending, The Associated Press reports.

A Senate subcommittee is near the end of its investigation into the tax strategies of Apple and other technology giants, according to The New York Times.
