News bites: Google's Schmidt lands in North Korea

By Jennifer Martinez - 01/07/13 09:32 AM ET

Google executive chairman Eric Schmidt landed in North Korea on Monday and wants to take a look at the country's economy and social media during his visit, the AP reports.

Google's rivals say the Federal Trade Commission's antitrust investigation into the search giant's business practices should have looked at whether its actions harmed companies that pay to advertise on its website, according to The New York Times.

The Federal Trade Commission's antitrust ruling on how Google uses its patents could have a wider impact on the tech industry, Reuters writes.

A French telecommunications company is taking on Google and online advertisers by letting its subscribers block Web advertising, The New York Times reports.
