News bites: AT&T considering merger deal in Europe

By Jennifer Martinez - 01/17/13 09:20 AM ET

Executives at AT&T are looking at acquiring a carrier in Europe, The Wall Street Journal reports.

The European Commission is considering a proposal that would require companies that store data on the Internet to report if they've suffered a data breach or risk fines, The New York Times writes.

Facebook's new search feature could be good for Google in its fight against an antitrust case in Europe, AllThingsD says.

Facebook users can now make free calls to their friends on the social network via a new update to its Messenger for iPhone application, CNET reports.
