News bites: Study finds movie rentals, sales rose after shuttering of Megaupload

By Jennifer Martinez - 03/07/13 09:40 AM ET

A new study finds that the shuttering of Megaupload and Megavideo led to more digital sales and rentals for two movie studios in 12 countries, The Wall Street Journal reports.

A court ruled that Megaupload founder Kim Dotcom can sue New Zealand's spy agency for conducting illegal surveillance, according to Reuters.

Telecom firms, including AT&T and Comcast, are pushing for states stop the spread of publicly funded high-speed Internet access, The Wall Street Journal says.

A top European Union official said Google, Facebook and other American tech companies have to play by the region's data protection rules, Bloomberg writes.

Facebook's redesigned News Feed seeks to draw users to the social network and offer advertisers rich images and content, The New York Times reports.
