Fiorina likely contender for Boxer Senate seat

By Kim Hart - 10/23/09 08:45 AM ET

The former chief executive of Hewlett Packard is seriously considering running for the U.S. Senate. Carly Fiorina, a controversial figure at HP before she was very publicly fired, has already filed papers with the IRS to explore the possibility. She is still on that path, judging from a speech she gave in San Francisco earlier this week.

She has not yet declared her candidacy. She would be up against Democrat Barbara Boxer, who is seeking a fourth term. Fiorina was a top official for the McCain-Palin campaign in 2008 and active in the Republican National Committee.

During her remarks this week, she said she thought more regulation of the Internet was inevitable to protect users, especially women and children, to better reflect the offline world. She also said she thinks many politicians in Washington are out of touch with reality and has skewed priorities. For example, the biotech industry got no stimulus money, but the construction industry received a large chunk of money.
