Waxman: Government will have to be involved in saving journalism
This morning, at a Federal Trade Commission workshop on the future of journalism, Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) urged policymakers to look for ways to support new legal or tax structures for media organizations, foster more philanthropic support, explore new sources of journalism, and consider more public funding for quality journalism. The FTC is concluding a two-day discussion about the industry, with Rupert Murdoch and Ariana Huffington weighing in.
"This is a policy issue," said Waxman. "Government is going to have to be involved in one
way or another."
