Lieberman wants cyber security coordinator to be confirmed
Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) wants the new cyber security coordinator to be a Senate-confirmed position.
Lieberman issued a statement Tuesday that said he would introduce legislation next year that would require that a nominee to the position be confirmed by the Senate.
Lieberman hailed President Barack Obama’s choice Tuesday to appoint Howard Schmidt as cyber security coordinator.
“The appointment of Howard Schmidt to be cyber security coordinator is a welcome development in the federal government’s ongoing efforts to improve the security of America’s cyber networks after so many months of delay,” Lieberman said.
He called for the administration and Congress to develop a national strategy for safeguarding critical cyber networks and a comprehensive plan that would lay out responsibilities for the private sector and every federal agency.
