Lieberman: Confront cyber attacks 'with all available means'

By Kim Hart - 01/13/10 12:31 PM ET

China's cyber attacks on Google sounded alarms for Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.), chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.

Liberman is drafting legislation designed to bolster the U.S. security infrastructure, and he said "Google's experience should be a lesson to all of us to confront this ever growing problem aggressively and with all available means."

“Google has provided an enormous service to internet users the world over by publicly sharing news of attacks it says came from inside China against its Gmail users," he said.  "As a nation and as individuals, we are vulnerable to cyber attack from hackers, predators, foreign competitors, and terrorists who would compromise, steal, or cripple our cyber systems and the information that courses through them. Educating internet users of these threats and vulnerabilities is key to thwarting such attacks."
