State Dept. to 'raise issue' of cyber attacks with China after Google strike

By Roxana Tiron - 01/13/10 01:20 PM ET

The State Department official in charge of the Far East told Congress on Wednesday that the U.S. government is concerned about China's involvement in cyber attacks, particularly after the recent strike against Google.

During a hearing of the House Armed Services Committee, David Shear, the deputy assistant secretary of the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs, said that the administration will raise the issue with the Chinese. Shear was answering a question from Rep. Ike Skelton (D-Mo.), who asked how the administration is handling an increasing number of cyber attacks.

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton on Tuesday demanded answers from China about the allegations, "which raise very serious concerns and questions."
