Osteen: Protect mega-churches' wireless microphones

By Kim Hart - 02/09/10 12:38 PM ET

Joel OsteenMega-church pastor Joel Osteen sent a letter yesterday to Rep. Bobby Rush (D-Ill.) in support of his bill aiming to add protections to wireless microphone systems from interference from other devices.

Rush's bill directs the FCC to let the operators of wireless microphones (namely, places of worship) to register their wireless frequencies in an online database so new devices would know to avoid those frequencies and prevent signal interference.

In the letter, Osteen wrote that his Houston church, Lakewood Church, is committed to reaching millions of viewers with its weekly broadcasts.

"But as we continue to work on achieving this important objective, we must have the right 'tools' and the tools must operate properly and without interference," he wrote. "A wireless microphone system is one of our most fundamental and important tools found in any Church across America. These systems enable communities to worship together through music, prayer, and hear a message of hope each week."

The FCC is setting up a database of all in-use frequencies so new wireless devices using unlicensed "white space" frequencies will not bump occupied signals off the air. Google and others have applied to operate that database.

I agree with Janie. I think it was somewhere in the Gospel of Luke that Jesus said, "Yea, verily, I say unto you, thou shalt not deprive the Lord of wireless microphones."Seriously, potentially taking away a few protections for wireless microphones isn't depriving anyone of their first amendment rights. If it were, then why wouldn't every church be entitled to its own full power TV station? Rules of general applicability are not discriminatory when applied to religious speakers.BY Ima on 02/09/2010 at 15:04

God gives true dicernment to the faithful, we as true believers know Osteens motives. God isnot a respecter of osteens "everybody can be wealthy and prosperous" message of if you only believe that God wants it for you. osteen is only one of many that no longer even teach "The Holy Scriptures", but one of a "feel good , what you want to hear, tickle the ears, "APOSTACY." He is one of many "wolves in sheeps clothing" that discerning followers of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ warned us would be "popular" before HE makes His next and last destined appearance. Keep Looking Up Brothers and Sisters, Jesus is coming Soon, How Glorious His Appearance WILL Be! An end will come to the false dichotomy of this 2 party false, and fakery system.BY Sid on 02/10/2010 at 13:20
