Report calls 2013 ‘year of the mega breach’

Last year was the “year of the mega breach” at retailers and other websites, according to analysis from a top cybesecurity firm.

The report from Symantec released on Tuesday found that there were 62 percent more data breaches in 2013 than in 2012. Eight of those were massive breaches that exposed information about more than 10 million people each, as opposed to just one the previous year.
