Google CEO Larry Page on Wednesday slammed many of the regulations that govern the Internet at the company's annual conference for software developers, expressing frustration over how institutions such as the law haven’t kept up with the pace of change.
“The law can’t be right when it’s 50 years old,” said Page. “It’s before the Internet — that’s a pretty major change.”

Attorney General Eric Holder said on Wednesday that the Justice Department will likely support legislation requiring law enforcement officers to obtain a warrant before accessing private online messages, such as emails or Facebook messages. "It is something that I think the Department will support," Holder said in testimony before the House Judiciary Committee. He urged Congress to exempt "certain very limited circumstances" such as civil investigations.

An advocacy group co-chaired by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is joining forces with Organizing for Action and Republicans for Immigration Reform to sponsor a "virtual march" for comprehensive immigration reform next week.
The political advocacy groups will sponsor a series of back-to-back events on various social media platforms, including Google Hangout and Reddit, that will encourage the public to ask their lawmakers to pass comprehensive immigration reform.
The so-called virtual march, called the March for Innovation, will take place on May 22 and 23.

The House on Tuesday unanimously approved legislation reaffirming U.S. policy as one that supports an Internet that is controlled by stakeholders, not governments.
In a 413-0 vote, members passed H.R. 1580, which once again signals the support of Congress for the continued development of the Internet without guidance from any single government or a collection of governments.

THE LEDE: Facebook announced on Tuesday that Catlin O'Neill, currently a top aide to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), will join the company's Washington policy office. O'Neill will lead efforts to lobby House Democrats. "Catlin has more than a decade of experience navigating the House process and we are thrilled that she's decided to bring her extensive political and legislative expertise to the Facebook team," Joel Kaplan, Facebook's vice president of domestic policy, said in a statement. She currently serves as Pelosi's chief of staff in her personal office. O'Neill spent six years as Pelosi's deputy director of legislative operations. She will join Greg Maurer, a former aide to Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), and Chris Herndon, a former Republican House and Senate aide, on Facebook's House lobbying team.
