George Clooney for governor?

A report that George Clooney is flirting with a California gubernatorial run is a “fabrication,” the Academy Award winner’s spokesman tells ITK.

The Daily Mirror, a British tabloid, wrote on Sunday that the actor might be attempting to follow in the path of actor-turned-politician Arnold Schwarzenegger.

“Friends of the Gravity star say the 53-year-old is being courted by Barack Obama’s Democrat party who want him to run for office in the 2018 race,” said the Mirror report.

But when we contacted Clooney’s publicist, Stan Rosenfield, on Monday about the veracity of the story, he replied simply, “fabrication.”

The British rag had previously reported that Clooney, 53, planned to “launch his new career” after marrying his fiancé, British lawyer Amal Alamuddin, later this year.

Clooney is a prolific Democratic donor and ardent supporter of President Obama.
