‘Cake Boss’ baking birthday treat for Christie

Reality television’s “Cake Boss” is baking up a birthday cake — to whip up some Republican party donations — for New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

“Every great birthday party needs a great birthday cake to make the celebration a truly unforgettable event," writes Buddy Valastro, the star of TLC’s baked good-centric show, “Cake Boss,” in a Thursday email from the New Jersey Republican State Committee. "That's why I'm getting ready to create the perfect cake to present to my friend, Governor Chris Christie, at his birthday celebration next Wednesday with special guest Governor Mitt Romney.”

Christie turns 52 on Saturday.

Valastro, who is the head baker at Carlo’s Bakery in Hoboken, N.J., calls Christie a “friend,” saying of the potential 2016 GOP presidential candidate, “I am honored to have the opportunity to create a memorable cake for him and hundreds of his guests to share.”

Tickets to the general reception run $150, while a roundtable ticket costs $25,000 per person. Valastro urges supporters in his note that if they’re unable to make it to the birthday fundraising festivities, “you can still donate $15 to sign the Governor’s birthday card or $75 to send him a birthday message.”
