Reed isn’t the first member of Congress to go under the knife for the weight loss surgery.
Former Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-Ill.) had the surgery back in 2004.
Reed's office didn't return ITK's request for comment.
UPDATE (1:05 p.m.): Reed tells ITK in an email: “The decision to undergo gastric bypass surgery was a difficult decision to make but it was the right decision for me and for my family. This will be a complete lifestyle change that my doctor says will add 20 years to my life.”
