Rep. Kyrsten Sinema is poised to become the first member of Congress to compete in an Ironman triathlon.
The 37-year-old congresswoman — an avid marathoner who we hear rides bikes, runs and swims in the very early mornings — dubbed the race “one of the most exciting challenges I’ve ever faced,” in a statement to ITK from her office.
“The Ironman competition represents what I admire most about the American spirit — hard work, determination, and a commitment to overcoming challenges,” she said.
An Ironman isn’t for workout wimps — it includes a 2.4-mile swim and a 112-mile bike ride, followed by a full 26.2-mile marathon.
Sinema will be running on behalf of the Desert States Charitable Foundation.
