Morrissey slammed President Obama for the annual turkey pardon in an open letter Tuesday that said it legitimizes the torture and killing of millions of turkeys.

The pop star said Obama sets an “abysmal example” on Thanksgiving, calling the White House “embarrassingly stupid” for holding its annual turkey pardon.

The British animal rights advocate and “Meat is Murder" singer, in a note titled "Thankskilling," writes that fans should “please ignore the abysmal example set by President Obama who in the name of Thanksgiving, supports torture as 45 million birds are horrifically abused; dragged through electrified stun baths, and then have their throats slit.”

And President Obama laughs,” the note, posted Tuesday on a fan site, continued. “Haha, so funny!”

Morrissey, a vegetarian, cites a statistic he says comes from Ingrid Newkirk, president of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, saying, “turkey ‘meat’ is one of ‘our nation’s top killers’, causing heart-attacks and strokes in humans due to saturated animal fats and cholesterol. And President Obama laughs.”

Obama is poised to continue the traditional turkey pardon ceremony at the White House on Wednesday afternoon.

Morrissey, 54, who contends the meat industry is “responsible for 51 percent of human-caused greenhouse-gas emission,” bashes that annual pardoning event, writing that “the embarrassingly stupid White House ‘turkey pardon’ is open support for a viciously cruel and environmentally irresponsible industry.”

He concludes his letter with the repeated line, “And President Obama laughs.”
