Rep. Jared Polis (D-Colo.) turned some heads on the House floor Wednesday, when he sported a blue blow tie and, ahem, an unconventional collared shirt.

The outfit triggered some chatter on Twitter. Shannon Bream of Fox News tweeted, “I know there is a story behind this outfit.”

But what was the story? Was Polis running out of clean shirts and/or regular ties? Did he lose a bet on the Super Bowl?

We talked to his spokesman Scott Overland, who gave us the scoop and a smile.

He said there’s no conspiracy behind the new look and noted the congressman received a few compliments on the House floor. Overland acknowledged that the Twittersphere didn’t give Polis love over his look but claimed the site’s users were “slow to realize the fashion genius.”

Asked if we should expect more of this type of genius, Overland responded, “I would count on it.”
