Special Olympics athletes to lobby members on Capitol Hill Wednesday

Special Olympics athletes will be on Capitol Hill Wednesday in an effort to ensure continued commitment to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

They and their families will meet with lawmakers during the day and then attend a ceremony Wednesday night.

There, Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) will receive the Special Olympics’ highest honor in recognition of his contributions to the movement and the “positive impact he has had on the lives of million of Americans with intellectual disabilities,” according to a release.
