Chelsea Clinton no longer ruling out politics

Chelsea Clinton says when people ask her these days whether she wants to go into politics, her answer isn’t an automatic “no.”

The 34-year-old former first daughter told Fast Company in an interview published Monday, “for so long the answer was just a visceral no. Not because I had made any conscientious, deliberate decision, but since people had been asking for as long as literally I could remember, it was no."

Now, the only child of former President Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton explains, "I live in a city and a state and a country where I support my elected representatives. If at some point that weren't the case, and I didn't support my mayor or my city councilwoman or my congresswoman or either of my senators -- and I'm lucky to live in a state where I have lots of women representing me, you know -- maybe then I'd have to ask and answer the question for myself, and come to a different answer."

In the article, Clinton describes her philanthropic work with the Bill, Hillary & Chelsea Clinton Foundation. But she also reveals a few lighter details about herself, including her dietary habits. While her father ditched meat years ago in favor of a vegan diet, Clinton did the opposite. “I was a vegetarian for 10 years and a pescatarian for eight. Then I woke up one day when I was 29 and craved red meat,” she says.

"I'm a big believer in listening to my body's cravings."

Saying fried chicken is husband Marc Mezvinsky’s favorite food, she discloses that the first time he visited her hometown of Little Rock, Ark., she took him to the poultry mecca Bojangles.

Clinton, who tied the knot with Mezvinsky in 2010, says her hubby will now “gorge himself on fried chicken.”

She also recalls discovering her love of coffee for the first time while living at the White House in 1996 and walking into a Washington-area Starbucks with a friend.

"I just had one of those moments where I was like, 'How have I not had coffee before in my life?' ” she remembers. “I love the way it tastes, I love the smell, I love the ambiance."
