The state of Maryland now has an entire day devoted to a blow-dryer.
Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley (D), who has been floated as a possible 2016 contender, is proclaiming July 1 as “Buttercup Day.”
The hair care destination successfully lobbied for HB-137, a bill allowing beauty parlors to apply for permits to serve complimentary wine, champagne and beer to of-age customers in Montgomery County, Md., while they have their 'dos styled. Liquor laws in the Washington suburb had previously prevented the practice.
O’Malley signed the bill into law last month, and is poised to issue an official proclamation to “commemorate the day and recognize the spirit behind Drybar,” according to a news release.
The governor congratulated the blow-dry company on the passage of the bill, saying, “Best wishes for a memorable ‘Buttercup Day!’ ”
Drybar’s founder, Alli Webb, said in a statement, “We are truly humbled and honored by the declaration of Buttercup Day!”
