The Nationals infielder is currently trailing Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo, Denver Rockies first baseman Justin Morneau, and Atlanta Braves outfielder Justin Upton in the vote, which concludes Thursday afternoon.
Earnest, an avowed Kansas City Royals fan, declined to weigh in on the vote in the American League, where Chicago White Sox hurler Chris Sale leads the pack.
The new press secretary has peppered his recent interviews and press briefings with baseball references as he seeks to win over the White House press corps.
"I'm going to call on you even though your Indians took two of three from the Royals this weekend," Earnest told National Journal White House correspondent George Condon earlier this week.
But his comment Thursday drew some good-natured questions about electioneering from an official White House account.
