"Lost" Actor Lobbies

By Mary Ann Dreas - 10/30/09 11:30 AM ET

He’s a pilot in the hit TV adventure series “Lost,” and now he’s helping out in a real-life drama. On Tuesday, Jeff Fahey gave a presentation before the Congressional Refugee Caucus, which includes his old friend, Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.).

The closed event was hosted by co-chairmen Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.) and Rep. Lincoln Diaz-Balart (R-Fla.), and it marked the first time Fahey had ever visited Capitol Hill to lobby. His goal is to increase pressure on the United Nations to grant basic rights to refugees, many of whom are trapped in camps for generations because they lack rights from either their country of origin or their adopted homes.

Fahey was humble, telling ITK, “I don’t have the answers.” He was surprised that many members of Congress care about his cause, even though “their plate is full” with healthcare reform and the war in Afghanistan.

Asked whether he considers himself a member of a political party, Fahey said: “What do I consider myself? I consider myself lucky.”
