Gregg not on speed dial at the White House

By Christina Wilkie - 11/11/09 04:43 PM ET

As debate in the Senate over healthcare heats up next week, there's one GOP moderate who's not sitting at home waiting for a phone call from President Barack Obama: Sen. Judd Gregg (R-N.H.), Obama's onetime pick for Commerce Secretary.

Gregg initially accepted the nomination in February, and only later revealed that he would not support certain key administration policies. The White House was ticked off, and accused Gregg of seeking out the nomination and then reneging on his word.

So when Fox News Channel's Greta Van Susteren asked him whether the President was "working the Senate members ... yet, Gregg laughed. "Not me."

Van Susteren agreed, "I don't think he will be calling you."

"I haven't been on phone dial list for a while," Gregg quipped.
